A History of Innovation
The Event story starts almost twenty years ago alongside the 'project studio' boom of the late 1980s and into the early 1990s.
Russell Palmer, a former executive at Alesis, who's ADAT system was an instrumental factor in the empowering of artists at that time, identified the market need for a relatively low cost, high performance studio monitoring system and thus Event Electronics was born.
Russell worked closely with Event's engineering team with the singular focus of identifying the deficiencies present in the smaller reference monitors that were the only affordable option for most audio engineers at the time.
After extensive research and development, coupled with hours upon hours of critical listening, Event finally realised its vision: The 20/20 nearfield studio monitor.

20/20: The Giant Killer
Using manufacturing processes and materials unheard of at the time, the 20/20 combined a magnetically shielded 25mm natural silk dome with an 8" mineral-impregnated polypropylene cone. A laminated and internally dampened MDF cabinet served as the cabinet, with a front-mounted large diameter bass port assisting in providing the 20/20's impressive low end response.
Event launched the 20/20 and the 20/20bas (bi-amplified system) to criticial acclaim from engineers, musicians and the media alike. In fact the very first pair of 20/20bas speakers were used by Francis Buckley to mix Quincy Jones' Q's Jook Joint album for which he won the 1996 Grammy Award for 'Best Engineered Album'.
The 20/20bas quickly established itself as one of the world's most successful active nearfield monitors, and launched Event into more than 50 countries worldwide making it a global brand with an enviable reputation.
To this day the 20/20 family of speakers are still highly revered, and are being used on many high profile projects around the world.
20/20bas
Award Winning Loudspeakers
From 1996 to 2005 Event released a suite of professional studio monitors ranging in scale from the 5" TR5 and ALP5 models up to the 15" 20/20/15 subwoofer.
2002 saw the release of the 20/20 V2 and 20/20bas V2, which utilised the same drivers and cabinet principles from original 20/20 that made Event a household name, but paired with revised amplifiers for both the LF and HF that borrowed technology from Event's Studio Precision monitor range.
This revision gave the legendary 20/20 even greater dynamics as well as a higher SPL.

The Rebirth
In 2006 R?DE Microphones' parent company Freedman Electronics acquired Event and immediately recruited a new engineering team comprised of some of the world's best speaker designers, with the aim of once again redefining how artists and engineers heard their mixes, just as the 20/20 had over ten years earlier.
Marcelo Vercelli (formerly of Mackie, RCF, KV2) joined the new Event team as Director of Engineering, and established Event's R&D labs in Woodinville, USA where he was soon joined by analogue amplifier guru Anibal Yusem (formerly of QSC).
Event's manufacturing and production was relocated to Freedman Electronics' 75,000 sq. ft state-of-the-art manufacturing plant just outside of Sydney, Australia.
Project Opal
The stage had been set for Event to once again rewrite the rule books on true reference monitoring.
The development process began with the decision to design absolutely every component of the speaker ? the woofer, tweeter, amplifiers, and cabinet ? from scratch. Every component was to be custom and proprietary, engineered to work in complete synergy with every other component.
Marcelo and the Event engineering team worked tirelessly, employing fundamental acoustic theory combined with innovative and disruptive technology, and an absolutely no-compromise approach to engineering.
Finally after three years and several millions of dollars of research and engineering, Event's vision has once again been realised with the Opal.
Project Opal
Redefining the Industry Yet Again
While the Opal's 8-inch two-way configuration may bear some resemblance to existing monitoring systems, the Opal experience defies conventional audio theory.
The Event Opal features a dynamic and extended mid-range that could previously only be expected from the most expensive esoteric three-way systems, while its powerful and precise bass response has many engineers looking around the room for a larger subwoofer.
Its response is entirely seamless and transparent throughout the entire frequency range, and it exhibits the lowest distortion of any speaker on the market.
Now it's time once again for the industry to play catch-up.
